The Housing Project Volunteer Itinerary

The Mwandi Cultural/Botswana Wildlife Experience

Duration: 23 days

Availability: All year round, except for the month of July where it is unavailable. Volunteers are still welcome in July, pleaserefer to the volunteer information, however this specific itinerary with the Botswana tour is not available.

Volunteer Group Size: typically 1 to 12, for larger groups please contact us.

Ages: Typically 18 - 65, there is no age restriction.

Costs: US$1448

Accommodation: While in Mwandi the Home for AIDS Orphans camp provides a comfortable, safe and secure base for the volunteers to work from. The camp has electricity and hot water facilities.

Meals: Included meals are stipulated in itinerary (B=breakfast, L=lunch, D=dinner)

Visa Info: Visa Fees US$50 for single entry and US$80 for double entry.

Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Pick from Livingstone airport or your accommodation, transport to Mwandi.

Day 2 through 11:
Volunteering at Mwandi Mission/Village. Volunteers participate with our qualified staff in the Housing Project, which involves building of mud homes for those most needy in the community.

Volunteers will start by placing poles in the ground, then binding the smaller wooden poles to them and finally in "Mudding" in the walls and installing the door and window frames.

Day 12: Depart early AM for Kazungula border crossing into Botswana on the car ferry over the Zambezi River see where the four countries Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia meet. Half day drive, 55 km north of Nata, to an original African Bush Camp.
Accommodation - Elephant Sands bush camp, 1 night

Day 13: All day at Elephant Sands Bush Camp which includes 25,000 hectors of bush and lots of game including, naturally, elephants. Overlooking a pan you can sit on the balcony enjoying a cool drink while watch the elephants having a drink only 7 meters away.

Optional 3 ½ hour Game Drive in an open safari vehicle with an experience guide cost is 80 Pula pp (approx. US$16.00) and/or a bush walk with experienced guide cost is 40 Pula. Dinner is around the large fire pit with a roaring fire where we sit and listen to all the sounds of nature and maybe even an elephant in the pan.

Day 14: Late morning departure for Kasane and the Chobe Waterfront where you can set up camp at Thebe River Safaris on the banks of the Chobe River. Balance of day at leisure to swim, watch sports, play darts in the lapa bar or just lie around and listen to the hippos.

Day 15: Chobe National Park game drive at 9:00 AM with experience guide in open safari vehicle. Chobe is known for its abundant and varied wildlife as well nearly 200,000 elephants. After lunch back at camp we take you into town to check emails and/or to just have a look around Kasane. At 15:00 hrs you are taken on a Chobe River Safari in an open safari boat with an experienced guide.

Day 16: Depart early morning for drive back to Mwandi, arriving early afternoon.

Day 17 through 22: Volunteering at Mwandi Mission (as days 2-11)

Days 23: Depart early morning for Livingstone where you can enjoy all Livingstone has to offer from such as white water rafting, curio shopping and much more. Don't forget a visit to one of the World's 7 Natural Wonders - Victoria Falls.
